I’ve loved vintage cars and motorcycles since I was a kid. I remember getting the Sunday Washington Post for the classifieds and highlighting all the classic Ford Mustangs for sale. Just dreaming of the day I would have one. There was a guy that went to our church, an architectural engineer named Rudy Zadnik. Rudy built two Mustangs in his garage and I still remember riding in that red ‘65 convertible. He pulled out the factory v6 and dropped a v8 with manual shift. The sound, the feeling. I was hooked.

My dad was a Chrysler man with a Dodge pickup and always a Chrysler in the driveway. But that Ford bug got me. I still have the Ford coffee table book my dad bought me for Christmas when I was 12. I’ve been fortunate enough to own two 1969 Mach 1 Mustangs.

As you age, your tastes change. In 2008 I was working on the film set of the movie Unconditional. Part of my responsibilities on set was acquiring all of the prop vehicles for the film. I had acquired all of the vehicles needed, except the main truck for the movie driven by the lead character. It was “an old pickup truck”. I looked everywhere for someone to rent me a ‘70s or early ‘80s truck and was having no luck. I could find classics that would be rented out for period films, and found trucks, but nothing that would work in our budget. We saw this truck at a gas station and approached the owner for renting it for the film. He said he would sell it to us. As soon as I saw it I fell in love. A sucker for Fords. I was not in the market for a truck but something about this just called to me. I purchased it for the film and have kept it. Completely original 1966

f100 with three speed manual and 352 V8. She looked good and sounded good. My father always had long bed Dodge so I’m partial to the long bed personally. For me, the lines are just right.

My buddy Mike had a 1970 f100 “Bumpside” with the crown vic swap. I wanted to drive them together to see and feel the difference. The vic gives a lot more power and it rides more like a car. We shot this video comparing the two and Mike sold it a few days after posting the video. Not bad! Mine, is not for sale.

I’ve thought about modifications I might make. The truck is completely original now except for the dual electric fan, installed A/C and ford 9” rear end. I’ve decided to keep it as is. It runs great and I don’t need it to be faster or upgraded. I like the challenge of driving it as is. I reserve the right to change my mind in the future, but as of now I have no plans for modification. Maybe a new bench seat and some interior?
